Canyoning in Interlaken: What to Expect

Canyoning is basically descending a river gorge on foot. You walk, swim, slide down natural rock chutes, rappel small waterfalls, and jump into natural pools. Our tour runs through a gorge near the village of Saxeten, a short drive (about 8 minutes) from our base. Once you're inside, it feels like a completely different world. Lush nature and alpine water, polished rock walls, waterfalls, ledges at different heights. The kind of place you can't really get to any other way.

The vast majority of our guests have never set foot in a canyon before they show up at our base. That's the whole point. The route is beginner friendly, but with enough variety that nobody finishes the tour wishing they'd done more. And every single obstacle has an option to skip or walk around.

The vibe is always good. Small groups, guides who know this particular gorge in detail, and a pace that lets you actually look around and enjoy where you are. It's adventurous without being too extreme. Real, but safe.

Tour highlights:

  • Natural rock slides into clear pools
  • Optional cliff jumps from about 2 metres, every one of them your choice to jump or walk
  • Short rappels down cliff walls of up to 10 metres
  • Small groups led by certified expert canyoning guides
  • Explore these remote landscapes with us that are otherwise inaccessible.

Is This Canyoning Tour Right for You?

We get this question a lot. Honest answer: probably yes. But there are a few situations where a different tour makes more sense. Here's how to tell.

Perfect if you…

  • Have never done canyoning before and want your first experience to be in a safe, well organised setup
  • Like hiking but want something with more to it: actual water, actual obstacles, actual adrenaline
  • Are travelling with family. Kids from 12 up do this tour and many of them love it more than their parents do
  • Open to all fitness levels. Nothing athletic required. If you hike now and then or do any kind of sport, you're fine
  • Like the idea of jumps and slides but have no interest or experience in the extreme end of the sport
  • Are with a group of friends or colleagues looking for something you'll actually be talking about months later

Maybe choose another tour if you…

  • Have already done canyoning a few times and want something steeper, longer, more technical- advanced canyoning sections. Have a look at our [Canyoning Grimsel] on a moderate level and [Canyoning Chli Schliere] - Canyoning tours for experienced guests
  • Want big cliff jumps up to 10 metres and longer rappels 20-50 meters high.
  • Are pregnant or dealing with an injury or health condition. Feel free to call us, we'll be able to help to make a decision
  • Want to be on water without the physical side of things. Our [Fun Rafting on the Simme] is a better match. If you want some whitewater action though, try our [Whitewater Rafting tour]
What's included?

    • Changing rooms at the base where you can leave your belongings for the duration of the tour
    • A drink at the base after the tour

      Please note

What to Bring & How to Prepare

We take care of all the technical gear. You just need to show up ready to get wet. There are lockers at the base for your belongings and space to change before and after the tour.

        Before you arrive

        • Eat light, around 1 to 2 hours before your slot. Not a full meal, not empty either
        • Skip the beer. Save it for after
        • Have a medical condition, an injury, or take medication? Mention it to your guide at check-in. It stays between the two of you. Helps us look after you properly
        • Show up 10 to 15 minutes early. That's all we ask. Makes the gear fitting smooth
        What to bring
          • Bathing suit
          • Towel
          • Smiles
